C'est par petites touches vaporeuses, comme ce crépuscule où «la maison se délite en une poussière semblable à ces photographies granuleuses», que le narrateur évoque la cécité de sa mère et comment elle l'avait harnaché enfant, tel un chien d'aveugle. Une seconde partie, adulte, beaucoup plus brève, met en scène les fantômes («un corps mobile qui se déplace de manière aléatoire» dans l’œil, «l'ombre de ma silhouette, en reflet, sur l'écran gris et vaguement brillant de la télévision me fait sursauter»), puis le divan du psy, où tout finit à la renverse...
